What is Containerized Energy Storage?

Containerized Energy Storage System (CESS) is an integrated energy storage system developed to meet the demands of the mobile energy storage market. It internally integrates battery cabinets, lithium battery management systems (BMS), bidirectional energy storage converters (PCS), container monitoring systems, fire protection systems, cooling systems, and can also integrate energy storage converters and energy management systems according to customer needs.

Energy storage containers are equipped with excellent anti-corrosion, fireproof, waterproof, dustproof (sandstorm proof), shockproof, UV resistant, and anti-theft features, ensuring they will not corrode for 25 years.

The capacity range of containerized energy storage systems mainly focuses between 500 kWh and 1000 kWh, with some larger capacity products reaching up to 3 MWh to 6 MWh. Specific capacities can be modularly configured according to needs.

Containerized energy storage systems have characteristics such as simplified infrastructure construction costs, short construction cycles, high modularity, and ease of transportation and installation. They are suitable for applications in thermal power, wind energy, solar energy stations, or islands, communities, schools, research institutions, factories, large load centers, etc.

The materials of containerized energy storage system boxes are divided into aluminum alloy containers, steel containers, and fiberglass containers.

Battery thermal management is key to maintaining continuous, stable, and safe operation of the system. Battery cooling includes air cooling, natural cooling, circulating liquid cooling, and phase change direct cooling.

The temperature control system of the energy storage system is composed of air conditioning control and fan control sub-modules. Using the temperature data of the battery module as the control variable, proportional, integral, and derivative (PID) logic control is used to dynamically adjust the air volume in real time. Depending on the ambient temperature, two modes of cooling and heating can be set.

The fire protection system of containerized energy storage includes fire detection devices, alarm systems, fire extinguishing devices, ventilation devices, and control systems, providing comprehensive safety operation guarantees.

Installing a containerized energy storage system first requires considering the site conditions. The containerized energy storage system needs sufficient space to accommodate the energy storage equipment. The site should have a flat and stable foundation and meet the space requirements for equipment installation, maintenance, and operation.

The energy storage system needs to be connected to the power network, so a reliable power supply is necessary. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure that the distance between the power access point and the energy storage system is appropriate to reduce power transmission losses.

Containerized energy storage systems have certain requirements for environmental conditions, such as good ventilation and cooling conditions, fire prevention, waterproofing, and other safety measures.

Installing a containerized energy storage system requires compliance with relevant safety regulations and standards to ensure the safety and reliability of the equipment. Moreover, containerized energy storage systems require regular inspection and maintenance, so sufficient operation and maintenance space must be provided.
